Everyday essentials for residents
Where to find propane, freight and shipping agents, laundry, repairs, building supplies and vet care on Great Exuma.

Living on Exuma means knowing who to call. This page gathers the everyday services listed on Exuma Local in one place, from getting a gas bottle filled to getting a parcel in from Florida. Hours and numbers change, so call before you drive.
Propane and fuel
Cooking gas comes in refillable cylinders. Three suppliers on the island fill or swap them; take your empty bottle in rather than waiting for delivery unless you have arranged it. Petrol and diesel stations are around George Town and the airport.
Shipping and freight
Almost everything that is not on the mail boat comes in by air or sea freight from Florida. Local shipping agents consolidate online orders at a Florida address and bring them over, the courier companies have agents in George Town, and a customs broker can clear larger shipments. Duty and VAT apply to most imports, so ask for an estimate before you order anything heavy.
Laundry and cleaning
There are laundromats in George Town and Moss Town offering self-service machines and wash-and-fold, plus a few individuals who do laundry for the rental villas. Drop off in the morning for same-day service.
Building, hardware and marine supplies
Lumber, hardware and marine supplies are stocked by a handful of stores around George Town. Specialist parts are usually ordered in, so plan a week or two for anything unusual. Outboard dealers, refrigeration and welding services are listed below.
Pets
Exuma has an animal hospital with a resident vet, plus a visiting vet who comes about once a month from Florida. The Exuma Humane Society runs adoption and spay-and-neuter programmes and welcomes volunteers and donations.
Government offices
The Administrator's office, the post office, the police station, the clinic and the island offices of Bahamas Power and Light and the Water and Sewerage Corporation are all in George Town. Offices generally keep weekday hours and close on public holidays.
